Some new communities...

Ok so I wake up this morning with like an inbox of 18 posts for dreamwidth, and I'm astonished. I haven't had that experience in a long time. So I posted about [community profile] uc_xmen 's prompts request at [community profile] fandom_on_dw  and [community profile] fandomcalendar  and it seemed to have worked! Yay! Now hopefully more people will join in once the prompting is over as well. So if you have any X-Men unconventional pairings you've wanted to see for awhile, add prompts!

In other news, I joined [community profile] seasons_of_fandom under the Winter Court because why not? I used to love the land communities at LJ so I figured I'd try it. Plus if it gets me active again with fandom, maybe it'll distract from RL shit? Plus I miss it.

Also I'm signing up for [community profile] 100ships (table) and [community profile] 100fandoms (table) - because again, why not? Also I need something to inspire me to write again. I miss writing. It might take me 100 years, but I figured I could combine them with claims that I've had for awhile. I do still need to move my fanfiction to my community though from LJ, plus add stuff that's been on AO3 only.

Created [community profile] tvfanfiction again here since there was only a [community profile] bookfanfiction and [community profile] moviefanfiction. I'm going to probably go through my other communities at LJ and add them here as well. Also imported posts from tv_fanfiction and [community profile] alicehatter  from LJ. So I think I officially know how to do that which is good.

OOh and I created [community profile] darcyland !! (Not a land community) - just darcylewis was being used and I completely forgot that I used chloe_otp as the formula for all the ships, but technically the Darcy Lewis fandom is called Darcyland.

Anyway I'm sure there are more to come!

Another challenge

So I haven't been able to write for a while - it's really frustrating. I haven't done anything regularly since before I broke my foot. While this may have been a bad idea, I decided to go ahead and sign up for [community profile] 100ships. I picked some idols I wanted to write, created all the ships I'm going to use, and now it's just a matter of putting them together with the prompts. So here's the table.

Here's hoping it helps. )

BND debuted in 2023 with One and Only, a very cute song (that, now that I think about it, reminds me a lot of Boyfriend by Boyfriend, although without the twins).

The next Bond?

OK, who should be the next Bond? I’m impressed by the wide range of suggestions here. I especially liked the suggestion for Rege-Jean Page. No one mentioned Joseph Mawle, Edward Bluemel, Harry Lloyd, or Matthew Goode, though. Or Tobias Menzies!

What do you think?

Fannish 50 #7: Blitzers

I discovered Blitzers through their song "Macarena." It's just so FUN. They actually do the macarena in the choreography, at 2x speed. I love it.

Hanging on the telephone

Well, so far, reports of my hiatus have been a bit exaggerated - as Mum has pointed out, BT are paying for the hotspot I'm currently using while waiting for the correct mini hub as per my last post's story of their screwup, (something tells me I will be needing the link they sent me for a rapid call back, as I'm not overly confident about the correct mini hub turning up tomorrow). Meanwhile, Olly Alexander's Eurovision is permanently stuck in my head due to the amount of time I have spent on hold doing battle! Nothing against the guy, (he actually went to art college here, and the local media practically reports on it every time he farts) but could quite happily never hear the song any more. Hoping it will be sorted soon though and I probably should apologise for the amount of ranty posts this week so far (and it's only Monday).

On the plus side the heatwave is finally over (I'm trying to ignore the usual clickbait spam that I'm still getting sent about 39 degree heatwaves on the way, but hoping this isn't the one time they got it right - who am I kidding though with this rubbish?).

Anyway, since I'm trying for a few less Ranty McRantFace posts for a bit, and also conscious that I haven't done a lot of Fannish 50 ramble lately, I'll quickly do one of those.

Say you come across a show you think you like the sound of, only it was cancelled before you got round to it (or you get a few episodes in and then find out it didn't get renewed) do you still carry on anyway, or decide not to bother once you know it's not going anywhere (and left on a cliffhanger)? Something I've been thinking about since I finally got round to checking out Outer Range (which I think was recommended to me by one of those Shows to Watch If You like Show X lists - considering the subject matter, probably Dark, which is one of my all time top five). I did know going into it that it had been decided not to renew for season 3, already have writing ideas for once I have better wifi, but find myself feeling frustrated at the knowledge that I won't get questions answered and have moments of wondering how much it's worth it in that situation.

uc_xmen fic meme > prompts are needed please!

So I've been exploring some Dreamdwith communities, discovered [community profile] xmenkinkmeme & [community profile] soulmates_meme plus rediscovered my old Summer of Blues and Love Drabble-A-Thon which inspired me to do a Summer Drabble-A-thon at  [community profile] capescrusaderstcg along with what I'm about to promote:

[community profile] uc_xmen fic meme >> Prompts are needed!! So even if you might not write anything, please comment with any type of X-Men Unconventional pairings & prompts. It will be greatly appreciated. Prompts will be collected from now until July 6th, and the prompts will be all collected and the Fic Meme/Drabble-A-Thon thing will begin. And please tell your friends about it if you can!

First Blooms

Rose pink

Not much is going on in life. Just the same real life stuff - consulting with Capgemini, doing things with my family, keeping up the house and the pets, and trying to make some passive income with Poshmark and Pangobooks.

I'm doing some reading too, and I'm almost finished with The Apothecary Diaries Light Novel volume 4. I have some library books that I'm reading, mostly cookbooks, and reading some manga here and there from Hoopla through the library.

I've been doing some outlining for the stories for the fic fests I joined for the summer. Hopefully I can get writing them soon!

Trying to save money as best I can and eliminating eating out as much. We just painted the spare room in the basement which will become Juliet's playroom, and this weekend we'll be moving her in, as well as cleaning and organizing the basement and the garage. It's going to be a hot one this weekend so we'll be staying indoors mostly.

During all of this, there is one thing that brings me absolute joy and that would be my garden. I reactivated my Flickr account so I could post my garden pictures there, and not just on Facebook.

I will have to make sure to water vigorously this weekend as we are going to reach the upper 90s here in the Chicagoland.

Stay cool, everyone.

Life Update (June 20th, 2025)

Hey it's been a while. Sorry about that, been focusing on other things. Things including;

  • Been transfering our drawings on our tumblr drawing-sideblog over to SheezyArt. For archival & other purposes (also have just been drawing a lot more). Also been writing more, but haven't tranfered our fics to Dreamwidth yet (or our drawings for that matter).

  • Became a mod for a saiouma server (partly because the other mods moved on).

  • Became a mod for [community profile] sunshine_revival.

  • Been consuming things again, though not on a regular basis.

FAPA blues

Got the most recent FAPA mailing, #351. It's fewer than 60 pages. While we're up to 21 members I think (I don't have it with me right now) - up from the 14-ish when I joined a few years ago - the page count has dropped recently, possibly in part because the Org Editor can no longer print people's entries for them. (He retired and no longer has access to the work printers.) So the overseas members are no longer sending in quarterly submissions.

defining terms )

FAPA's contribution requirement is 8 pages a year, which can be 1 double-sided sheet of paper per quarter. This was not particularly onerous even in the days of hectographs. It is, however, apparently enough of a hassle that several current members only technically meet it - sending in that single sheet a quarter, and it's only a page and a half, and it's in 14-pt type and includes a picture covering a quarter of the page. If there were still a waiting list, they'd be bumped for failing to meet the contrib requirements. Since there hasn't been a waiting list this century, this is not an issue.

There are scans of some past mailings (or rather, parts of them) and scans of Fantasy Amateur, the official org zine (aka, the index & list of members), which stops right at the point where membership started dropping below the max of 65.

...Anyone want to join a venerated scifi institution that's been fading since the dawn of the WWW?

Requirements:
* Send 25 copies (currently) to the OE, minimum 8 pgs/year; can be sent quarterly, annually, or anything in between. More details inside )
